This is the coat of arms of Republic of Karelia (as of September 28, 1993). The colours are based on those of the 1993 flag.
There is enraged black and gold bear on the tricolored (a red, a dark blue and green) shield. The red colour symbolizes bloodshed; the dark blue colour symbolizes lakes and rivers of Karelia; the green colour represents the woodlands of Karelia.
In the upper part of the shield there is an octagonal star (doubled cross) of gold.
